How do you define hope? Improving yourself through education? Surrounding yourself with people who will help you succeed? Assisting your community with achieving its greatest potential? Since 1977, The Center for Leadership Development (CLD) has been offering this type of hope to minority youth in central Indiana. CLD offers a broad range of programs to help guide these youth to be future professionals and business and community leaders. CLD provides experiences that encourage personal development and educational attainment.
CLD, an Alerding CPA Group client since 2000, offers programs geared toward youth from 4th to 12th grades and their parents, targeting its Five Principles for Success: 1) Character; 2) Education; 3) Leadership; 4) Service; 5) Career. These principles represent core values that will help develop and prepare youth for the highest levels of academic achievement, career success and community service.
One of CLD’s most effective programs is its College Prep Institute offering such courses as Emerging Scholars, Success Prep, College Prep Academy, SAT Prep and the annual College Prep Conference and College Fair. The Institute provides licensed guidance counseling, individual success planning, career assessments, college research and selection, study skills and more. CLD helps their youth find internships and scholarships. Since 2004, over $16.3 million in scholarships have been awarded to their youth with $2.9 million awarded in 2015 alone.
“Stewardship is the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one’s care. At CLD, we take that responsibility seriously as we invest our resources (personnel, donor funds, and physical assets) in the fulfillment of our mission. That is why we appreciate the professionalism, integrity and knowledge of Alerding CPA Group as they conduct the annual audit of our financial records and prepare our government reports,” said Gail Bradford, CPA and CLD’s Accountant and Human Resources associate.
“It’s been gratifying for us to be involved with a program that has such a positive impact on the youth within our community,” said Mike Staton, Managing Director at Alerding CPA Group.
