We are pleased to announce that Michael P. Alerding was selected as one of only 12 winners nationally in the Indiana University Kelley School of Business’ inaugural Accounting Alumni Recognition Awards. Alerding received his award, in the Community Service category, on September 23 during a banquet in the President’s Hall on the Bloomington campus.
Alerding, a 1971 Indiana University graduate who has worked in public accounting for forty-five years, has been extensively involved in the Indianapolis community. Some of his charitable work includes serving as a Distinguished Director Emeritus for both WFYI Channel 20 and the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation. He sits on the board of the Indianapolis Humane Society and is a Trustee for Cathedral High School. He was also chosen as Indiana’s Accounting Advocate of the Year in both 1989 and 2000.
“Our accounting department is honored and proud to have one of the best networks of successful alumni in the world,” said James Wahlen, Chair, Department of Accounting at the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. “Mr. Alerding exemplifies the commitment to excellence that we foster at the Kelley School of Business and the importance of giving back to our local communities,” he added.
“I am truly humbled to be part of this inaugural group,” said Michael Alerding. “To be included among these other prestigious winners is an honor,” he added.
In 1998, Alerding cofounded Alerding CPA Group in Indianapolis where he currently serves as Senior Director, after stepping down as Managing Director in 2011.
